The Story
Completed in 2024, this conversion occupies the ground floor of a 19th-century artisan building in Lisbon's Alfama district. The space was originally used as a ceramics workshop — the arched windows, exposed brick, and high ceilings were built for work, not for living. We kept all of it.
The brief was to create a home that retained the character of the original studio while functioning as a comfortable single residence. No false ceilings, no covering of the brick, no attempt to make the space feel like something it was not.
A private courtyard connects the interior to the outside — planted with local species, it brings light and greenery into the heart of the plan. Inside, custom oak joinery and integrated storage define the living zones without closing them off from each other.
