The Story
Completed in 2023, the Valley House sits in an open field in the hills of Var — surrounded by wildflowers on three sides and a view of the coast on the fourth. The clients wanted a house that felt like it had always been there, without pretending to be something historical that it was not.
The structure is simple: a single-storey volume in local render, with a deep covered terrace that functions as an outdoor room for most of the year. The wildflower meadow was planted as part of the landscape brief — low maintenance, native species, designed to change with the seasons.
Inside, the plan is open and cross-ventilated. No air conditioning was specified. The depth of the terrace shade and the orientation of the openings keep the interior cool through the long southern summer without mechanical assistance.
